PointerEvent.pointerId

An identifier assigned to a pointer event that is unique from the identifiers of all active pointer events at the time. Authors cannot assume values convey any particular meaning other than an identifier for the pointer that is unique from all other active pointers.

This property is Read only .

Syntax

var id = pointerEvent.pointerId;

Return value

id
The pointer event's unique identifier number.

Example

This example illustrates the PointerEvent interface's pointerId property.

The following code snippet compares a previously saved pointer id with the identifier of the pointerdown event that was just fired.

target.addEventListener("pointerdown", function(ev) {
   // Compare previous id that was cached with this event's id
   // and handle accordingly
   if (id == ev.pointerId) process_event(ev);
 }, false);
